Kaplan Turbines are the turbines which are activated upon reaction of the force built up when the water flow is being drawn inwards. When the water gets into motion, its pressure changes and transfers its energy to the turbine wheel. Kaplan runners are the product of combination of the radial and axial flow characteristics. Various geometrical structures of Kaplan Turbines' intake and runner blades allow its efficient operation for a certain flow interval. Although efficiencies of Kaplan Turbines above 90% under normal conditions, this efficiency value shall be much less with low heads.
